To celebrate the important role of off-campus study in liberal arts education, the ACM member colleges – Beloit, Carleton, Coe, Colorado, Cornell, Grinnell, Knox, Lake Forest, Lawrence, Luther, Macalester, Monmouth, Ripon and St. Olaf – invite students to submit photographs from their off-campus study experiences for an all-ACM photography contest. TEN CASH PRIZES will be awarded and the winning photographs, together with a selection of honorable mentions, will tour the ACM campuses from January through April 2010. A selection of the photographs nominated by the colleges will continue on display at the ACM office in Chicago and may be used in future ACM publications. Grand Prize: $200 1st prizes: $ 100 2nd prizes: $75 3rd prizes: $ 50 Honorable mentions: $10 gift card Judges will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners and will designate them in each of the following three categories: • People • Stories • Artistry Judges will be looking for photos that go beyond the typical tourist shot. Photos that demonstrate cross-cultural learning — a student actively engaged with the local culture instead of just observing — and photos that illustrate the inter-disciplinary nature of liberal arts education will be favored. The judges will also consider creativity and artistry in the composition of the photos. A description is required with each photo to provide context for the judges. A panel of judges will select the prize-winning photos during the week of the December 7, 2009. Winners will be notified via email no later than December 14, 2009. Eligibility: Students must be currently enrolled at an ACM college and must have taken the photograph while on an undergraduate off-campus study program. The off-campus study program may be domestic or international and may be sponsored by ACM, a member college, or another off-campus study provider. Up to ten total photographs nominated by the Off-Campus Study office will be accepted from each campus. Photographs that have not been nominated will not be accepted for the contest. A panel of campus judges will select the nominees. Students may submit more than one photo, but no more than one photo per student will be nominated. DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 20, 2010 One copy of each photo (minimum 8” by 10” printed at high resolution on photo grade paper) must be submitted, with a completed submission form signed by the student. In addition, each photo must be accompanied by a high resolution digital copy (jpeg or tif). Digital copies of all ten entries from a campus may be submitted on one cd.
