| Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda/Day of the Dead Altar 11/4
|
The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and by Latin Americans living in the United States and Canada. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration occurs on November 1st and 2nd. Traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite food and beverages of the departed, and visiting the graves with these as gifts. As Latinos Unidos, we will be building an altar to honor people who have died crossing the US/Mexico border. We will have a table and decorations that symbolize the four elements: air, water, fire and earth. Mohr Student Center: Simpson Balconies November 4th 4pm-6pm
